During menopause, a very useful plant is celandine (Chelidonium maius L.). The raw material is the herb and the root. Among the active substances, important during this period are isoquinoline alkaloids with strong antispasmodic, sedative, anxiolytic, analgesic, cholagogenic and choleretic effects. Other active ingredients are protoberberine alkaloids (berberine, stylopine), bezphenanthridine alkaloids (chelerythrine, sanguinarine), protopine alkaloids (protopine, allocryptopine), carotenes, vitamin C, caffeic acid and its esters, caffeoyl-glyceric acid, caffeoyl-threonic acid (also in the form of lactone), caffeoyl-malic acid, chelidonic acid, glycogen, succinic acid, calcium, essential oil.

Celandine infusion (2 teaspoons of crushed herb or 1 teaspoon of crushed root per glass of boiling water; brew for 20-30 minutes). It can be taken orally in a dose of 30-50 ml twice a day in case of painful cramps in the lower abdomen, painful menstruation, premenstrual syndrome, vegetative neuroses, anxiety and excessive nervous excitement. When used for more than 3-4 days, it lowers blood pressure. It relieves the symptoms of heart palpitations and flushing. Celandine is a powerful herb that can cause poisoning, that's why

the recommended doses must not be exceeded. Do not use in case of glaucoma.
